Professors

Milton Masciadri is Professor of Double Bass at the University of Georgia, where he has been a member of the music faculty since 1984. Representing the third generation of double bassists in his family, he was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and began double bass studies with his father. By the age of 17, he was co-principal bassist with the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra in Brazil, and at the age of 19 was on the music faculty of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.

Masciadri is a frequent recitalist and soloist with major symphony orchestras in Europe, Asia, North America, Central America and South America. He has presented master classes at such musical institutions as The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Paris Conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music in London, Moscow Conservatory, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires National Conservatory, and Milan Conservatorio among many others. Dr.  Masciadri’s solo performances have taken place at many internationally renowned concert venues including New York’s Lincoln Center, “La Fenice” Opera House in Venice, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Castro Alves Opera House in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) and the Municipal Theater of Sao Paulo.  During the summers he teaches at several international music festivals and double bass conventions in the United States, South America and Europe. His solo recordings have been released on the DMR, Sinfonica, ACA & Fondazione labels.

Masciadri’s enthusiasm for enlarging the repertoire of the double bass has led him to publish and premiere works of many contemporary American and South American composers, including works commissioned for him by such institutions as UNESCO and Funarte, as well as making contributions of his own with numerous transcriptions and arrangements.

Some of Masciadri 2015-16 performances included performances in Italy, Spain, France, Scotland, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, China, Chile and the United States.

In 2009, Dr. Masciadri received the title of Distinguished University Professor of the University of Georgia, the first faculty member in the fine arts to be so honored in 62 years and he also holds the title of “Accademico” of the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna, Italy – Europe’s oldest musical educational institution. He has been awarded the Brazilian Medal of Honor for Academic Achievements for his musical and educational services to the people of Brazil, and in 1998 was designated an UNESCO Artist for Peace. In 2011, he received the Knighthood honor of the designation of Il Cavaglieri di San Marco in Venice. In 2015, Masciadri was Awarded the Leonardo da Vinci World Award for the Arts by the World Cultural Council, the first musician to receive the award since its inception. Masciadri is the winner of the SEC faculty achievment award 2016.

Masciadri performes on a 320 years old Testore double bass and appears in the International Who’s Who in Music.

Milton Masciadri è docente di contrabbasso presso “University of Georgia” dove e’ membro del corpo docenti dal 1984. Rappresenta la terza generazione di contrabbassisti nella sua famiglia, nasce in Montevideo, Uruguay e inizia lo studio del contrabbasso sotto la guida del padre. All’eta’ di 17 anni e’ co-principale presso l’orchestra Porto Alegre in Brasile, all’eta’ di 19 e’membro del corpo docenti della Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Ha completato il suo Master’s e dottorato in contrabbasso negli Stati Uniti sotto la guida di insigni Maestri come Gary Karr, Julius Levine e Lawrence Wolfe.

Masciadri svolge un intensa attivita’ solistica con importanti orchestre sinfoniche in Europa, Asia, North America, America Centrale e Sud America. Ha svolto Master class in famose instituzioni come The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Paris Conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music in London, Moscow Conservatory, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires National Conservatory, Conservatorio di Milano e molte altre. La sua attivita’ solistica lo ha portato a suonare in rinomate sale da concerto come New York’s Lincoln Center, “La Fenice” di Venezia, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Castro Alves Opera House in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) e the Municipal Theater of Sao Paulo. Durante l’estate insegna in numerosi festival internazionali negli Stati Uniti, Sud America e Europa. Masciadri ha inciso per etichette come DMR, Sinfonica, ACA & Fondazione.

Il suo entusiasmo nell’ampliare il repertorio per contrabbasso lo ha portato a pubblicare “prime mondiali” di compositori contemporanei negli Stati Uniti e in Sud America, includendo lavori commissionati da istituzioni come UNESCO e Funarte; di rilievo e’ inoltre il contributo che Masciadri da’ con innumerevoli trascrizioni e arrangiamenti.

Alcune delle esibizioni del 2015 includono concerti in Italia, Spagna, Francia, Uruguay, Argentina, Brasile, Costa Rica, Colombia, China, Danimarca e Stati Uniti.

Nel 2009 Dr. Masciadri ha ricevuto il titolo di “Distinguished University Professor of the University of Georgia”, il primo docente membro delle “Fine Arts” ad essere onorato in 62 anni; possiede inoltre il titolo di “Accademico” dell’Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna. E’ stato premiato Medal of Honor for Academic Achievements per il suo servizio come musicista e docente per il popolo del Brasile, e’ nella lista di “International Who’s Who in Music”, nel 1998 e’ stato premiato dall’UNESCO come Artista per la Pace e nel 2011 ha avuto l’onore di ricevere il titolo di Cavaliere di San Marco a Venezia. In 2015 Masciadri ha avuto l’onore di ricever il premio “Leonardo da Vinci” premio mondiale delle Arte dal World Cultural Council.
